Few professionals have a greater impact on our lives than nurses. We often do not realize just how important a nurse is until we need the care that only a nurse can provide. Never have so many people needed nurses as now. The current global shortage of nurses is so critical that Hospitals, Universities, Human Resource firms and Government bodies around the world have joined in efforts to solve the global nurse shortage.

In my role as a business executive, I encounter many great visionaries and observe both efficiencies and inefficiencies in business operations. Based upon my work within the healthcare industry, it is painfully clear that nurses and the profession as a whole are in crisis. Today, the nurse profession is hemorrhaging nurses. According to the recent report of the Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. is heading for a pivotal benchmark of needing 1.2 million nurses to fill vacant positions in the year 2014. We must act immediately with precision and focus to solve this enormous problem. It is my perspective that a paradigm shift must occur in how nurses and nursing are viewed if we are to stave off a deepening healthcare crisis.

To this end, I have been speaking to individuals and groups alike in the United States and beyond on the need for a revolution within nursing. In my book, "Solving the Global Nurse Shortage: Social Media & The Cultural Transformation of Nursing," I lay the groundwork for orchestrating a nursing revolution.
